ROCK MONSTERS!

Filed under: Photoshop, work — October 1, 2008

I did this a while ago. Finally get a chance to post it. There’s a story behind the picture, but unfortunatly I can’t get into it.

Again, 60 min doodle. I’m a little distracted today. I’ve got to go give a talk later tonight at my old Alma Matter about how i got from being a fresh-faced art student to where I am today. Hopefully the students get something out of it, cause I still feel like a punk kid.

Le Vampire

I’ve been watching True Blood on HBO. I’m still not sure I like the show but I think it’s fair to say that it has inspired today’s junch lunch doodle. Again about 60 min.

60 min. The hi res of this image got corrupted, stupid technology. Now back to pounding my head on Sketchup.

Lunch Doodles 2!

Another lunch break scribble. Again, about 60 min. It’s a good way to take a break from all the robots I draw at work. If you had told me in 8th grade that I would need a break from drawing robots, I would have laughed in your face.

Mooning the world!

I am responsible for very little in Sega’s upcoming Golden Axe: Beast Rider title. I did however do a little storyboarding for the project. Storyboarding in general is not my first love. It can be a lot of fun but it’s also tedious and fast paced. While I was doing the first board pass on the script I entertained myself by playing a little game: How many Butt shots can I put into the boards? (Very mature of me, I know.) The answer was quite a few. As expected, most of them were cut or re-boarded. I did the first pass, and most of the time the first, is never the final.

I got a surprise last week that made me giggle like a little kid that just got away with a hilarious prank. I was checking out the new Golden Axe trailer at Gametrailers.com when I saw one of the butt shots that I boared in the trailer. I nearly did a spit take at my desk and started laughing immediately. It was too much fun, my own private joke had made it into the game. I wasn’t going to post this originally but I reconsidered when I read that I was partly responsible for what Justin McElroy at Joystiq.com calls: “…the most gratuitous digital ass shot of this or any other decade.”

Like I said, too much fun.

I suck at the internet so here is the link to the Joystiq aritcle and the trailer itself:

Black and White is what I like

Filed under: Pen and Ink — August 12, 2008

So I’ve been pretty busy here, life, work and art take up all my time. Yet I feel like I could always be doing more. So I thought I’d throw this up here. Mostly cause it’s what I have that I can show. It’s another character development piece for a project I’m working on. I’m really enjoying working in black and white. It makes things simpler for me and keeps me focused on the design of the picture. I’m also working on a project that I hope to have done for APE (Alternative Press Expo) this year. I want to keep that stuff on the wraps until I have something more to show. In addition to that I may be giving a presentation at my old college, and there’s no way I’m going to embarrass myself by not bringing new work to that. When that’s done I’ll post them here. Anyhow enjoy, and if you feel like it let me know what you think.

Barbarians IN SPACE!

So, I’ve been busy lately. I did storyboards for a Nissan Commercial the other day, which was wild. Also, I’ve been batting around the idea of doing a comic with my buddy Andrew. He came up with such a silly fun idea I couldn’t say no. This is the concept piece we came up with to sell the story. The character isn’t finalized, but I think this image captures the tone we are looking for. I won’t get into the details yet but it gives me a chance to play with subjects that some of my art heroes made famous. This is actually my second take on it. The first one was a swing and a miss. The thing that makes this image for me is the guy in the cockpit. It made me laugh while I was drawing it. That doesn’t happen all that often so it’s special to me when it does. Anyhow, enjoy and if you feel like it, let me know what you think.
